We loved the opportunity to see you all this week. We were so impressed with your engagement and enthusiasm - plus a big shout out to all the teachers who helped to present/facilitate sessions! We love having some many teachers we can count on to help provide peer learning opportunities. We wanted to share a few reminders:

Teachers, Happy (almost!) Winter Break! Winter break means a well-deserved reprieve from daily obligations. Thanks for all that you do everyday for our students and families. Please see below for a note on attendance, some fun holiday activities (and a recipe!), and some community events. We've also included some important reminders for you! As our year draws to a close, we should reflect on the successes and gains we have made with students and families and celebrate our accomplishments. We may also take inventory of our individual work, focusing on areas of growth, set new bars and be intentional in our efforts to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves in the New Year. Best wishes for a happy holiday season! <3, Team OEL Attendance Works! We all know that young children benefit tremendously from attending a high quality early learning program. A very important component to students receiving the full effect of these benefits is to attend school regularly. Attendance issues are a common challenge throughout our Pre-K program. It is important to educate our families and make them mindful of the fact that their child’s success in school goes hand in hand with student attendance. In an effort to combat the chronic attendance problems we face, please try out a few of the positive suggestions below. Attendance Strategies and Incentives:
FUN HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS: Holiday activities for kids can be fun, simple, and educational. Encourage parents to engage and motivate learning during the break. Some activities include:

Jan 7-Begin "From Jungle to Desert" Unit Snow Day?!? What's a teacher to do to make sure students still get rich learning opportunities?
Thanks to Rosalyn Washington and Jimmy Stapp, from the IT/Ed Tech team, we have the answer! They've created an online newsletter with Smore, which includes some great ideas and resources for families. When school's out, learning can still continue! November was National Homeless Awareness month, and we wanted to share a belated note about some ways that we can support our homeless families and the broader community. Many of the students and parents we serve have faced financial and tragic challenges which have significantly altered their lifestyles. Let’s be mindful of these things as we provide service excellence to our families. The Atlanta Public Schools Homeless Education Department has listed several ways you can show your support: 1. Volunteer at a shelter 2. Purchase gift cards and give them to your School Social Worker or the APS Homeless Liaison, Tonya Malone. 3. Sign up and donate through Purposity. For questions, please contact Tonya Malone APS Student Services Department at [email protected]. One way we can do this is to provide parents with fun activities they can do at home with their kids so they can still engage in learning during the holiday. Here are a few tips to share with your parents to keep children busy during the break.
